MV: Yea, I know, you might be calling me a facebook addict right now for writing a post about “Islam in Facebook” but actually believe it or not, facebook can change peoples views on Islam and can also help make a good Muslim Ummah. Now for those who don’t know what facebook is (and live under a rock) but even those who do know:
Facebook (from the Facebook corporate page) was founded in February 2004 and is a social utility that helps people communicate more efficiently with their friends, family and coworkers. The company develops technologies that facilitate the sharing of information through the social graph, the digital mapping of people’s real-world social connections.
- More than 130 million active users
- More than half of Facebook users are outside of college
- The fastest growing demographic is those 25 years old and older
- Average user has 100 friends on the site
- 2.6 billion minutes are spent on Facebook each day (worldwide)
- More than 13 million users update their statuses at least once each day
- More than 2.5 million users become fans of Pages each day
Now do you see how facebook can help Muslims spread causes and help spread a message. For example, during my years using Facebook, I have joined many causes for donations such as Feed a child with a click. Well it can still depend on your friends but since I had many friends on Facebook, it helped spread the cause very quick and in a matter of days most of my friends saw the cause and so they spread the cause and so on. Since facebook is such a big social networking system, it helps us Muslims spread causes and as well as messages. Some of them are, Defend the Prophet (PBUH), Islam is a religion of peace, Stop selling the Furqan. Also other then those there are also various ideas you can become fans of, such as the most obvious, Islam. So if you have a facebook account remember to join causes, events, donations and become fans of anything that helps Islam as in facebook so it spreads mad fast!
