Today I received a free book in the mail titled, “10 Amazing Muslims Touched by God”. This book included a personal letter written by the author, “Faisal Malick”. The letter was disguised and worded in such a way that seemed like encouragement from a Muslim to other Muslims to read this book in order to be inspired and develop a stronger faith. A false premise for Muslims that may be seeking to learn more about faith and appreciate Muslims around the world.
This book contains the complete contrary of that premise. It is full of a destructive, harmful, hateful, and false image of Islam. Each story starts with a Muslim, some very devout, who end up witnessing a miracle and ends up converting to Christianity. Which the major problem not being the stories so much so then compared to the negative image of Islam that the stories mention. From falsely associating leaving Islam with punishment by death, outlining Muslim disrespect and hatred towards Christians and Jews, associating Islam with strict cultural and abusive marriages, domestic violence, intolerance within our communities, and falsely associating Islam with extremism. As a Muslim, I found this extremely disrespectful to my religion.
This book really brings out negative stereotyping in a very deceiving form. The letter was written in such a personal way that it seemed like a very sympathetic and appreciable form of literature geared towards Muslims, beginning with, “Dear Muslim friend, Assalamu Alaikum!” Unfortunately, however, the book turns out to be misleading and an insult to practicing and fateful Muslims. I can just imagine an average Muslim receiving this in the mail, anticipating in reading about the good of Muslims, but ending up reading such a blasphemous disrespectful image of Muslims. This book is completely disgraceful and offensive to all Muslims, with a misleading premise.
Please spread the word about this book.
